About Me

Prof. Dr. Özgür Kılıçkesmez completed his university education at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine in 1997 and received his specialty training at IEAH Radiology Department. In 2011, he received the title of Associate Professor at Yeditepe University Faculty of Medicine Hospital, Department of Radiology. In 2010, he received neuroangiography training for 6 months at Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neuroradiology. Between 2012 and 2013, he worked as a clinical fellow in interventional radiology at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London for 3 months, and then at King’s College Hospital for 6 months on advanced peripheral and interventional oncology.

Between 2012-2020, he led the Interventional Radiology Department at IEAH, and since 2020, he has been working as the founder of Radiology and Interventional Neuroradiology/Interventional Radiology at SBÜ Istanbul Çam and Sakura City Hospital. In the same year, he was appointed to the SBÜ Radiology professorship position.

This hospital’s Interventional Radiology Department became the largest service of its time, operating 24/7. As of 2024, he started working as the Chief of Radiology at Medicana Health Group’s Istanbul Ataköy Hospital.

Prof. Dr. Kılıçkesmez holds the Turkish Radiology Competence Certificate, Turkish Interventional Radiology Competence Certificate, Stroke treatment certification, and European Board of Interventional Radiology (EBIR).

In his academic background, he received the Siemens Radiology First Prize in 2008. He has received awards for articles with the most citations in international journals and has been chosen among the best reviewers of the American Journal of Roentgenology and Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology. He has 83 international, 35 national printed articles, 28 online articles, and about 100 congress and symposium presentations. These publications have received more than 1500 citations.

His areas of interest include minimally invasive treatments for painful musculoskeletal and spinal pathologies, non-surgical treatment of thyroid and parathyroid diseases, vascular erectile dysfunction treatment, and angiographic treatments of brain and body vascular diseases.

He has provided training to hundreds of international physicians on brain aneurysms, minimally invasive treatments of thyroid diseases, opening vascular occlusions, and embolization (thyroid, hemorrhoid, prostate, AVM, etc.) and continues these activities. He has given talks at more than a hundred congresses.
